MP Mwafaq Hussain Meets with Aran Organization to Address Key Issues in Kurdistan Region

Sulaymaniyah, Iraq – August 22, 2024 – Member of the Iraqi Parliament, Mr. Mwafaq Hussain, visited the office of Aran Organization on August 22, 2024, to discuss several critical issues affecting the Kurdistan Region. The meeting highlighted the health sector’s challenges, freedom of expression, youth rights, and the role of NGOs in the region.
During the meeting, Mr. Hussain and the staff of Aran Organization engaged in a detailed discussion on the current state of the health sector in the Kurdistan Region. The discussion focused on the Federal Ministry of Health’s responsibilities and the necessary support to address the ongoing challenges in the region’s healthcare system. Mr. Hussain commended Aran Organization’s efforts in compiling a comprehensive report on the health sector and decided to take immediate action by sending a formal letter to the Federal Ministry of Health. The letter will be accompanied by the survey report prepared by Aran Organization, urging the Ministry to provide the much-needed assistance to the Kurdistan Region’s health sector.
In addition to healthcare, the meeting also covered crucial topics such as freedom of expression in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Mr. Hussain expressed his concern about the limitations faced by journalists and activists and emphasized the need for stronger protections to ensure their voices are heard.
The discussion further extended to the rights of youth in the Kurdistan Region. Mr. Hussain and the staff explored strategies to empower young people and encourage them to actively advocate for their rights. The role of NGOs in the region was another key topic, with both parties agreeing on the importance of enhancing the capacities of these organizations to better serve the community.
