On August 31, 2021, within the framework of the Aran Organization's legal clinic activities, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), we, as staff of Aran Organization along with a number of activists from Koya, visited the Public Prosecutor of the Kurdistan Region. We discussed the issue of the impact of partisan conflict on the public services situation in the city of Koya.
The city of Koya is still affected by the civil war and the presence of partisan conflict; its residents have become victims of partisan interference in governmental affairs.
Following the meeting, media channels from Erbil governorate came to the Public Prosecutor's office and significantly raised the issue in the media.
The Public Prosecutor promised to follow up on the matter and agreed with Aran Organization and the Koya activists that the city is still paying the price for the "dual administration" (a historical political division in Kurdistan), and that in this context, the people of Koya have become the victims.
