On January 28, 2023, the Aran Organization Team held a significant meeting with the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Mrs. Kwestan Mohammed, in Sulaymaniyah. This meeting, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), addressed critical issues impacting the civil service and employment sectors in the Kurdistan Region.

The discussion focused on two key topics:

  1. Preventing Interference in Civil Service Employment:
    • The Aran Organization emphasized the importance of establishing transparent, merit-based hiring practices within the civil service sector.
    • Concerns were raised regarding political interference that undermines fair employment opportunities, particularly for young graduates and qualified candidates.
  2. Preventing Civil Servants from Holding Secondary Jobs in the Private Sector:
    • The organization highlighted the need to enforce existing regulations that prohibit civil servants from engaging in secondary employment.
    • Allowing public sector employees to work private jobs was noted as a practice that not only breaches legal frameworks but also restricts job opportunities for unemployed individuals.

Minister Kwestan Mohammed expressed her support for the issues presented and assured the Aran Organization of her ministry’s commitment to addressing them. She promised to work diligently on these topics and to publish the outcomes of her ministry’s actions in the near future.

This meeting marks a step forward in fostering accountability and equitable employment practices in the Kurdistan Region, aligning with the Aran Organization’s mission to promote justice and good governance.
