On February 22, 2024, the Aran Organization, with support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), hosted an event at the Titanic Hotel in Sulaymaniyah to launch its fourth comprehensive report on the health sector in the Kurdistan Region. The report examined ten critical aspects of the health sector, providing an in-depth analysis and oversight of its current state. It highlighted how authorities are undermining the public health sector in favor of private sector interests, thereby bypassing Iraqi laws and constitutional provisions.

The event was attended by 98 stakeholders, including members of parliament, health sector activists, representatives from medical unions, key health institutions, and the General Directorate of Health in Sulaymaniyah. Additionally, medical students—future doctors and health experts—and representatives from various media outlets were present.

Nine distinguished speakers addressed the topics outlined in the report, sparking insightful discussions among participants. The event team meticulously documented all recommendations put forward by attendees, ensuring that valuable insights were captured for future reference.

The event garnered significant media attention, with more than ten media channels providing live coverage. This widespread coverage underscores the importance of the report and the critical issues it addresses within the Kurdistan Region’s health sector.
